Taran Matharu is a British author of young adult fantasy novels. Born in London in 1990, Matharu grew up in a multicultural household and was heavily influenced by the stories and folklore of his Indian heritage. From a young age, he was drawn to fantasy novels and video games and spent much of his free time reading and writing his own stories.
After completing a degree in Business Administration at the University of Bath, Matharu worked in finance for several years before deciding to pursue his dream of becoming a writer. In 2013, he began writing his debut novel, The Novice, which he self-published on Wattpad. The book quickly gained a following and was eventually picked up by a major publishing house and released in print in 2015. The Novice went on to become a New York Times bestseller and was followed by three sequels, The Inquisition, The Battlemage, and The Outcast.
