When your child is starting to read, it can be challenging to find a book they are interested in at their reading level. Here at JustKidsBooks, we have highlighted some of our favorite titles for young readers. Our learning to read books from level one up to level five allows your child to try new books at home and practice their reading skills outside of the classroom.
Children's reading levels are assessed on fluency when reading out loud and comprehension, checking their understanding of what they are reading. Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) and Lexile recommendations are the usual ways schools monitor and assess children's reading levels. Starting at level one and aiming to go all the way up to level sixty by 6th grade.

Phonics
Phonics skills have been taught throughout kindergarten and elementary schools for a long time. Phonics helps children sound out words to say them correctly. By having phonics cards with fun and engaging characters on them, it encourages children to want to use them and to practice their skills as part of a storyline activity. A fantastic phonics set is Julia Donaldson's Songbirds Read with Oxford Phonics 36 Books Collection Set (Stage 1 - 4). The pack contains thirty-six phonics books at different reading levels. The stories are written by international bestselling author Julia Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo and The Stick Man.
