About the Author

Roald Dahl was a British novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, and wartime fighter pilot. He was born in 1916 in Llandaff, Wales, and grew up in England. Dahl's childhood was marked by tragedy, as he lost both his father and sister at a young age. Despite these difficulties, he attended boarding school in England, where he developed a love for storytelling.

Dahl's writing career began in the 1940s when he started writing short stories for adult magazines. His unique style, which combined humour, horror, and the macabre, quickly gained popularity, and he soon became one of the most sought-after writers of the time.

In the 1960s, Dahl turned his attention to children's literature, and it was in this field that he truly made his mark. His first children's book, "James and the Giant Peach," was published in 1961 and was an instant classic. This was followed by many other beloved books, including "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Matilda," "The Witches," and "George's Marvellous Medicine." Dahl's books are known for their imaginative storylines, memorable characters, and humour that appeals to both children and adults.

Roald Dahl passed away in 1990, but his legacy lives on through his beloved books, which have been translated into over 50 languages and continue to be read and enjoyed by children and adults worldwide. To this day, he is considered one of the greatest children's authors of all time.
