  2. A Clergyman's Daughter
  3. Coming Up for Air
  4. Burmese Days
  5. Animal Farm
  6. 1984 Nineteen Eighty-Four

Keep the Aspidistra Flying is the first title you'll find within this exclusive collection. Orwell presents a strikingly accurate depiction of the struggle against the 'money god,' woven into the life of the central character, Gordon Comstock. This book enthrallingly explores themes of societal pressure, poverty, and the pursuit of authenticity in a materialistic world.

The second book, A Clergyman's Daughter, showcases Orwell's nuanced understanding of societal roles and expectations. It tells the story of Dorothy Hare, the obedient daughter of a Suffolk clergyman, who is suddenly thrust into a disturbing adventure where she learns the contrasting realities of life.

In Coming Up for Air, Orwell's protagonist, George Bowling, provides a satirical commentary on the societal transformations before World War II. It's a profound, humorous, and at times poignant story about nostalgia, the fear of societal progress, and the longing for simpler times.

Burmese Days, the fourth book in the set, is a heart-rending narrative of the dark side of British colonial rule in Burma, drawn from Orwell's own experiences as an Imperial Policeman. This compelling piece introduces readers to the harsh realities of racism, betrayal, and the cost of integrity.

The collection wouldn't be complete without Orwell's two most renowned works. Animal Farm, the penultimate book in the set, is a timeless allegorical masterpiece that uses a group of rebellious farm animals to mirror the events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917. It's a profound exploration of power, corruption, and betrayal that continues to resonate today.

Lastly, 1984, or Nineteen Eighty-Four, is a dystopian novel that has profoundly influenced popular culture's understanding of totalitarian regimes. With its chilling portrayal of life under an omnipresent surveillance state and its exploration of themes like truth, freedom, and human nature, it offers an unforgettable reading experience.

Each book in The George Orwell Complete Classic Essential Collection is printed on high-quality paper and bound with an attractive, durable cover that complements its content. The set comes in a sturdy slipcase box, making it a perfect gift for literature enthusiasts or a valued addition to your own collection. This assortment of Orwell's narratives provides a broad spectrum of his ideological and storytelling mastery, making it a must-have for any literature aficionado or Orwell enthusiast.

Read and discover Orwell's uncanny ability to mix wit with deep socio-political insights, his penchant for dissecting the human condition, and his unparalleled storytelling. The George Orwell Complete Classic Essential Collection is more than just a box set - it's a portal into the past, a mirror of our present, and a speculative look into the future, all wrapped in Orwell's insightful prose. About the Author:

George Orwell, whose real name was Eric Arthur Blair, was an esteemed English novelist, essayist, critic, and journalist known for his keen awareness and insights into politics and human nature. He was born on June 25, 1903, in Motihari, Bihar, British India, to a British colonial civil servant. He is renowned for his two major works, 1984 and Animal Farm, both of which have had significant cultural and political influence worldwide.

Orwell was educated in England at Eton College. After school, instead of attending university, he joined the Indian Imperial Police and was stationed in Burma from 1922 to 1927. His experiences there deeply influenced him, leading to his first novel, Burmese Days, which provides a harsh critique of British colonial rule.

In 1945, Orwell published Animal Farm, a satirical allegory of Soviet totalitarianism. The book became an instant success. It was followed by 1984 in 1949, a dystopian novel exploring themes of totalitarianism, mass surveillance, and the manipulation of truth. Both novels continue to be significant in political discourse and popular culture.

Orwell died of tuberculosis in London on January 21, 1950. Despite his relatively short life, his influence on literary and political culture remains substantial. Orwell's writings stand as a testament to his dedication to clarity, precision, and honesty in language and to his unyielding stand against totalitarianism in all its forms.

Description from the Publisher:

Keep The Aspidistra Flying

In Keep the Aspidistra Flying, George Orwell has created a darkly compassionate satire to which anyone who has ever been oppressed by the lack of brass or by the need to make it will all too easily relate.

A Clergyman's Daughter

Intimidated by her father, the rector of Knype Hill, Dorothy performs her submissive roles of dutiful daughter and bullied housekeeper. Her thoughts are taken up with the costumes she is making for the church school play, the hopelessness of preaching to the poor and her debts.

Coming Up for Air

George Orwell's paean to the end of an idyllic era in British history, Coming Up for Air, is a poignant account of one man's attempt to recapture childhood innocence as war looms on the horizon. George Bowling, forty-five, mortgaged, married with children.

Burmese Days

Burmese Days describe corruption and imperial bigotry in a society where, 'after all, natives were natives'. When Flory, a white timber merchant, befriends Indian Dr Veraswami, he defies this orthodoxy.

Animal Farm

When the downtrodden animals of Manor Farm overthrow their master Mr Jones and take over the farm themselves, they imagine it is the beginning of a life of freedom and equality. But gradually, a cunning, ruthless élite among them, masterminded by the pigs' Napoleon and Snowball, starts to take control.

1984 Nineteen Eighty-Four

Winston Smith rewrites history. It’s his job. Hidden away in the Record Department of the sprawling Ministry of Truth, he helps the Party, and the omnipresent Big Brother, control the people of Oceania.
